Kansas City Chiefs Acknowledge Domestic Violence Claims Connected to Player the Athlete
The NFL franchise issued a statement on Wednesday evening indicating they are aware of domestic violence allegations circulated in social media posts by a ex-partner of wide receiver the athlete and were in contact with the league office.
The team omitted the name of the player specifically in their statement and noted they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.
Claims Shared on Instagram
The woman, who also did not mention Rice by name, posted a series of photos on Instagram that appeared to show indicators of bodily harm. She stated the individual in question was the father of her children, and reports indicate she has two children with the football player, whom the team drafted in the 2023 draft.
Official Complaints Currently Not on File
No official complaints were available in the Kansas City suburb where the incident is said to have occurred.
Player's Prior Off-Field Troubles
The receiver was absent for the first six games of this season following an league-mandated ban for his role in causing a multi-vehicle accident on a Texas roadway that resulted in multiple people injured. Rice was given 30 days in jail and probationary supervision after entering a guilty plea to serious offenses.
On the field, Rice concluded the year with 53 catches for 571 yards and five TDs as the Kansas City went with a losing record and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first time in a decade.
